Temple College, 2600 S 1st St., Temple, TX 76504

I have the distinct honor of adjudicating at the 2024 Temple College Jazz Festival.

An entertaining and educational weekend of outstanding jazz that will bring together top professional artists, clinicians and hundreds of college, high school, and junior high musicians for clinics, competitions and great performances.

Come to the finest performing venue in Central Texas, the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center, on the campus of Temple College, and catch the excitement!

Please make plans to attend the Wind Ensemble Concert in Treadaway Recital Hall on the campus of St. Mary's University on Friday, March 1, featuring members of the Unites States Air Force Band of the West, vocalist Eva Alpar, and flutist Savannah Palmer, under the direction of Dr. Matt Mireles. The concert begins at 7:30 PM and it is free and open to the public. Join us!

Please make plans to attend the Spring Jazz Concert in Treadaway Recital Hall on the campus of St. Mary's University on Thursday, February 29, featuring the Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Adrian Ruiz, and the Jazz Combo, under the direction of Mr. Bill King. We will perform selections made famous by jazz luminaries Nat Adderley, Count Basie, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Kenny Dorham, John Klenner, Henry Mayer, Jimmy McHugh, and Lee Morgan. The concert begins at 7:30 PM and it is free and open to the public. Join us!

I have the distinct honor of performing as a guest soloist with the Sandra Day O’Connor High School Jazz Ensemble on Friday, February 9, at the TMEA Convention.

It’s going to be a special night! Come on out and hear some great charts, which will feature music from the libraries of Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Doc Severinsen, et al. I was commissioned to write a composition to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of O’Connor High School, and pay tribute to Wallace Dierolf, who served as the inaugural band director.

Please make plans to attend. The students have been working hard, and will put on a great show for those in attendance. The show starts at 6:30 PM, in the Henry B. González Convention Center, CC Hemisfair Ballroom 1-2.

Join us for a fantastic night of music! This performance will serve as a send-off concert (the O’Connor Jazz Ensemble is the invited high school jazz group for the 2024 Texas Music Educators Association Convention).

I will be a guest soloist this evening, and will also be premiering an original composition with the band to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of O’Connor High School.

The Adrian Ruiz Quintet

 —  —

Jazz, TX, 312 Pearl Parkway, Building 6 Suite 6001, San Antonio, TX 78215

Trumpeter Adrian Ruiz has strongly established himself over the years as one of the most effective bandleaders and exciting soloists in the San Antonio and Austin scenes. His quintet, which boasts some of the area’s well-established and fastest rising talents, features Gil Del Bosque on saxophone, Chris Villanueva on piano, Sam Pankey on bass and Aaron Easley on drums. Each of these gentlemen is a creative force in his own right, but they really click as a unit, so that the music comes off as the Adrian Ruiz Quintet, rather than merely a collection of great sidemen. His most recent album features original material by the group members, ranging from the fiery and bluesy to more introspective and unexpected material.
